They are singing with Savonian dialect which is a bit hard to understand for many southern city folks. My great uncle speaks with really heavy Savonian dialect and I barely understand him at all.

Quite interesting. I see from Wikipedia it's more of a rural dialect? Some of the accentation (vowel use, dropped consonants, etc.) seems to have points in common with Bavarian German and rural variants of English and other languages.

Yeah, something like that. Older generation who grew up without television in rural areas use the dialect more heavily than younger generations. My father changes his speech to resemble Savonian dialect when he is speaking with his relatives in Savo but doesn't use it all in home.
We have several different dialect areas and talented people can recognize the dialect areas really well but most of us can recognize the easy ones.
